High-intensity care I provide

High-intensity support is for people whose daily care needs clinical skill. Under the NDIS (the National Disability Insurance Scheme), these are often called high-intensity daily personal activities. As a nurse, I can safely take care of them in your own home.

  • Bowel care, including complex bowel care and digital rectal stimulation
  • PEG feeding (tube feeding) and giving medicines through the tube (enteral medication)
  • Catheter care: indwelling (IDC) and suprapubic (SPC) catheters, bladder flushes and in-out catheterisation
  • Spinal injury and quadriplegic care
  • Seizure management and epilepsy support
  • Medication administration: oral, enteral, transdermal (patches) and nebuliser
  • Wound care using aseptic (clean, sterile) technique
  • Pressure area care, skin checks and pressure injury prevention
  • Hoisting, transfers and manual handling
  • Range of motion exercises
  • Observations: vital signs, neurological and neurovascular checks

My high-intensity experience

2023 to 2026: Disability Support Worker and Team Leader. I provided 1:1 care for a participant with an acquired brain injury, paraplegia and other health conditions, and led a small support team. My work included medication and symptom management, bowel care including digital stimulation, IDC and SPC management, bladder flushes and in-out catheterisation, hoisting, pressure area care, range of motion exercises and wound care. I also supported their mental health, including substance use, anxiety, depression, dissociative identity disorder and complex PTSD.

2019 to 2023: Disability Support Worker. I provided 1:1 care for a participant with an acquired brain injury, quadriplegia and limited ability to communicate. My work included seizure management, PEG feeding, medication administration, bowel care, hoisting, pressure area care, range of motion and wound care.

Both were long-term roles where I worked directly with the participant and their family as a sole trader.

Why a nurse for high-intensity support?

As an Enrolled Nurse, I have clinical training to notice when something isn't right and to act on it, including recognising and responding when someone's health is getting worse. I keep clear care notes and can work alongside your care plan and other health professionals.
